Miami — August 11, 2009 – Further signifying its commitment to growth and expansion while delivering value to operators, manufacturers and retailers, Brightstar Corp., a global leader in customized distribution and integrated supply chain solutions for the wireless industry, has announced the promotion of two key executives as well as the appointment of a new executive to its senior management team.
Mike Cost, former president of Brightstar U.S., has been promoted to the role of global chief operating officer (COO), responsible for all global IT, operations and human resources functions. In addition, Cost will also lead worldwide retail management, parlaying the recent success he experienced in his previous role managing the wireless category for U.S. retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart, Best Buy and others.
“For many years, Mike has helped Brightstar maintain our high-level of customer service and commitment,” said Marcelo Claure, chairman, president and CEO of Brightstar Corp. “He is a phenomenal operational talent who has been instrumental in our organization’s profitability and success.”
As Cost takes on his new role as the company’s Global COO, Patrick Stokes will become the new president for Brightstar U.S. With nearly 19 years in the telecommunications industry, Stokes was most recently the vice president of merger integration at Verizon Wireless, where he held numerous positions since 2002, including vice president of national business distribution, director of strategic alliances and director of indirect retail distribution. Prior to Verizon, he worked for Sprint Corporation, holding various director-level positions in direct and indirect sales and distribution. He holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School, and also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Maryland College.
In addition, Andrew Weinberg, who had been serving as Brightstar’s global COO, will become Brightstar’s chief strategy officer. In this newly formed role, Weinberg’s responsibilities will include defining the company’s corporate vision and strategy, including all merger and acquisition activities. Weinberg is also a member of Brightstar Corp.’s Board of Directors.
“Under Andrew’s direction as global COO, our company maintained an excellent balance sheet and is well-positioned for continued success,” continued Claure. “With the addition of Patrick, we have strengthened our senior management leadership team, one that is dedicated to continue to exceed the expectations of our business partners and our operator, manufacturer and retailer customers.”
