BRIGHTSTAR CORP. EXPANDS GLOBAL REACH, ADDS DISTRIBUTION FACILITY FOR WIRELESS PRODUCTS IN AUSTRALIA
Samsung Appoints Brightstar to Support Handset Distribution in Australia
MELBOURNE – August 1, 2005 – Brightstar Corp., a leading value-added supply chain management and distribution services company for the wireless industry, announced its expansion into Australia. The new subsidiary, Brightstar Logistics, is headquartered in Melbourne with sales offices in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney.
With the addition of the Australia distribution center and the recent opening of Brightstar India, the company now operates 29 facilities in 21 countries worldwide. Last year, the company sold more than 18 million wireless devices globally from the industry’s leading manufacturers, working with more than 160 network operators and reaching over 15,000 points of sale.
Brightstar’s expansion into Australia will provide manufacturer partners with improved access to the market. Additionally, Brightstar’s presence will provide increased availability of product and value-added services to wireless network operators, agents, dealers and retailers who serve the consumer and business markets in Australia.
As operators launch 3G in Australia, the industry predicts new opportunities for growth. Brightstar created its Emerging Technologies division to assist in identifying, developing and marketing unique products and services that improve consumer access to wireless products.
The division is comprised of market analysts, business development professionals and product experts that work to provide network operators with access to innovations they can help drive to the market.
“We believe Brightstar is uniquely positioned to serve markets like Australia. We are consumer-centric and develop innovative solutions that meet our customers’ needs, not vice-versa, and which allow our partners and customers to better manage their business and drive costs out of the supply chain,” said Dean Verberne, general manager of Brightstar Logistics. “Our strength in product distribution services and strategic relationships with the world’s most prestigious wireless manufacturers and network operators will serve as the foundation for our success.”
Brightstar is one of the only wireless distribution companies in the world to have signed distribution agreements with the top seven global wireless manufacturers.
With the launch into the Australia market, Brightstar announces a signed agreement with Samsung to provide distribution and fulfillment services for Samsung products. Under this agreement, Brightstar will sell, market and support Samsung mobile phones to dealers and retailers in country.
“We are pleased to expand our distribution in Australia with Brightstar Logistics. We believe that Brightstar’s innovative approach to integrated supply chain and logistics services provides an invaluable resource to help grow our business in the market,” said Josh Delgado, General Manager – Telecommunications, Samsung Australia.
Brightstar will market and sell several Samsung handsets, including the Samsung D500, Samsung X640 and Samsung E310. Products are available by calling Brightstar Logistics at (03) 8558 2888 or via fax at (03) 9551 5696.
The contract expands upon existing distribution relationships between Brightstar and Samsung in the United States and several countries in Latin America since 2000.
